GROUP OBJECTIVES

(1) To relieve the suffering and distress of those persons suffering from prostate cancer in Ayrshire and offer support to their relatives, partners, families and carers.
(2) To advance the education of the public in all matters relating to prostate cancer. In furtherance thereof but not otherwise, the Group shall seek to promote awareness and improved detection of prostate cancer and its treatment.

SYMPTOMS
which may occur include: An increase in urinary frequency and urgency. Frequent awakening at night to empty your bladder. Weak or hesitant urinary flow which may be accompanied by a burning sensation. Straining or dribbling at completion of urination. Decreased sexual activity. Incontinence. Blood in the urine or semen. Persistent pain in the pelvis, back or area of the hips or ribs. Impotence (erectile dysfunction).
NOTE The above symptoms may indicate some problem other than prostate cancer and should be investigated by your doctor. Further details can be obtained at the Groups National Association Web Page (see right)

PATIENT CONTACT SCHEME
In conjunction with Ayr Hospital we run a patient contact scheme whereby you can have a confidential talk with a member who has suffered a similar type of prostate cancer as yourself. He will not express any medical opinions unless he is qualified to do so. We also work closely with Ayrshire Cancer Support, The Prostate Cancer Charity and other similar bodies.
To make initial contact phone either Jim Steel at 01294 211244 or George Seaman at 01563 533632.

GENERAL MEETINGS - Click here for details of the next meeting
General Meetings are held throughout the year, usually at the Education Suite at Crosshouse Hospital, East Ayrshire to which the public are invited to attend. Speakers are invited, usually giving talks connected with prostate problems, awareness, treatment and aftercare. Following this, along with a 'cuppa tea' there's an opportunity to meet with people, their partners and other concerned people, in an informal manner, who have suffered from prostate cancer or are involved in the treatment of the disease. Dates etc., of meetings can be obtained from any of the committee members or by contacting us direct.

NEWSLETTERS
Both national and local newsletter are sent (free) to members containing information on latest advances in research and matters of local and national interest.
